I am very excited to be a part of the wonderful faculty at Bear Creek (K-5) Elementary School as a Gifted & Talented Specialist! I moved to the Grapevine-Colleyville area in August of 2015 from Tucson, AZ, and am happy to be in my fourth year here at Bear Creek Elementary School.

While living in Tucson for the five prior years, I worked on my Ph.D in Education (Major: Language, Reading, and Culture; Minor: Teaching and Teacher Education) at the University of Arizona (BEARDOWN Wildcats!!). I continued to work on my dissertation during my first two years at BCES and I graduated in May of 2017, and was finally Dr. Robbins!! In my work at UA, I was a Research Assistant for an early childhood education project called CREATE. I also worked as a Site Coordinator for the early childhood pre-service teachers and as a Supervisor for them throughout their student teaching experience during my time there. I continue my work as a researcher and presenter through publications and presentations in my specialty areas of literacy, culturally relevant pedagogy, and teacher education.

Prior to moving to Tucson, I was an early childhood teacher in first grade (6 years) and second grade (3 years) at Ranchvale Elementary in Clovis, NM. While teaching, I worked very hard to achieve National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Language Arts, which is a certification I continue to hold and worked to renew in 2017.

I attended Eastern New Mexico University (Go Hounds!) for both my Bachelor’s Degree (Early Childhood Education, 1999) and my Master’s Degree (Reading/Literacy Education, 2001).

My favorite “job” over the past 26 years has been being a mom. I am the mother of a wonderful daughter who finished up her Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing in May of 2015 before moving to Texas, also. She is now a professional nanny in the area which gives her time to work on her writing.  She and I were lucky enough to attend the University of Arizona together for a couple of years while she worked on her Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing. It has just been her and I most of her life, so we are quite close and love hanging out together (see pic). We love to travel, watch movies and TV, listen to music, and play with our sweet pups! Our dogs make us smile every day and we are so thankful to have them. There’s never a dull moment with Lennox, Blayze, and Wrenly around (see pic).

I am so excited to work with and get to know the students and families at Bear Creek Elementary! I am always available if you would like to talk or meet. The easiest way to contact me is through email, and then we can set up a phone or classroom conference, if needed. Thank you so much for sharing your precious child with me this year. I feel so privileged to work with them and am amazed by them each and every day!

Our classroom is a "be kind zone" and we work to promote kindness and compassion not only in our classroom, but also in our everyday lives.
